Welcome to our Website

Our practice focuses on movement from the center in a spiraling and flowing manner, emphasizing the need to blend with the attacker to provide the energy for the technique.  We strive to provide an environment that is both safe and enjoyable to all who wish to join us on our journey.

If you would like to begin training with us, or if you have any questions regarding our Aikido community, please contact Jay Lindholm or stop by and visit. We would be happy to answer any questions you may have as well as share our aikido experiences with you.

Weekend Seminar at Alamo City Aikido with Bill Gleason Sensei - May 9th - 11th, 2008

This past weekend ten of us travelled to Alamo City Aikido in San Antonio for a seminar with Bill Gleason Sensei from Boston. It was a hot time for at least for two of the three days. The weather decided to get rough and my tired old bones felt it too.

During the first two days of training, Gleason Sensei focused on the use of kokyu for technique. The three phases of kokyu included acceptance, carrying and release. Sensei showed how this applied to a variety of techniques and how all techniques really contained this element making them all very similar in nature. He also explained about the importance of the cross in Aikido which is comprised of the vertical character “unity” and the horizontal character “separation”. Sensei went on to demonstrate how these two characters actualize themselves during various techniques as well. It was a great learning experience for all of us who attended and very rewarding as a result.

On Sunday, the weather actually gave us a break as the temperatures dropped about 20 degrees and the humidity also dropped significantly, making for a very pleasant training environment for the final day of the seminar. We focused on some very interesting weapons exercises which will require a lot more practice in the coming months to better understand.

Over all it was an awesome experience which once again has left me thinking about it in total confusion. It may take some time to process the information into our Aikido but in the meantime, we will get back to practicing.

Kyu Testing - May 4th, 2008

This past Sunday we had two kyu tests with David Huffaker and Richard Moore both testing for Rokyu.  The tests were very well done with each test candidate demonstrating a good understanding of the basic movement for all required techniques, plus a few extras we threw in for good measure.  It was exciting to see the two candidates move with such relaxed tension and not force anything into happening. This is something that many take years to realize.  Even the randori was done in a relaxed and calm manner. Great job Richard and David!

Following the kyu tests we went to Pei Wei for some serious eating and to celebrate the successful kyu tests.  An enjoyable time was had by all.

Special thanks to all who came to support the test preparation on Saturday and kyu testing on Sunday as well as the senior students who took ukemi during the kyu tests.
