Wednesday, 02 February 2011

Due to the severe winter storm moving through Central Texas, South Austin Aikido will have a modified schedule Thursday, February 3rd. We will not have a second class (7:00 - 8:00 PM), to let people get home before the worst of the weather. During these poor weather conditions, please take care and travel safe.

We will back to our normal training schedule on Sunday, when everybody will be nice and rested after our mini break! Feel free to call us at 512-970-2422 if you have any questions regarding our class schedule.

Mary Heiny Sensei Visits Austin, TX PDF Print E-mail
Written by Jay Lindholm
Tuesday, 01 February 2011

The weekend before last, Mary Heiny Sensei made her fourth visit to South Austin Aikido.  The seminar was a huge success with 52 participants over the seminar weekend.

We studied aikido connection which, is at the heart of every technique.  Mary Sensei explained about the importance of acceptance and how to dissipate energy into the ground by passing it down your spine.  We practiced this principle primarily thru ryote tori from a variety of techniques including ikkyo, iriminage, shihonage, kokyunage and tenchinage.

On Saturday after the second class, we headed to the beautiful home of Darrell White for a pot luck celebration.  The food was awesome and we had a lot of enjoyable conversation, mostly picking Mary Sensei’s brain about her experiences in Japan and ideas about aikido.

Thank you to all of the participants who came to support the seminar and a special thank you to Mary Heiny Sensei for your teaching over this wonderful seminar weekend.  We look forward to doing this again in the future!
