On Sunday we had two Sankyu tests that included Seth Green and Tony Gaddis. Seth went first and showed a lot of improvement from his last test. His arms were relaxed and he moved well from his center. His tenchinage was beautiful to watch. Not bad for a very difficult technique. His randori showed a lot of good thought using the mat well and not getting too rapped up in his arms. Way to go Seth on a great test!! Then Tony tested and moved with beautiful posture. You can see the power attached to the ground when Tony moved. His iriminage showed a lot of connection to his partner and a good sense of line. Then his randori was fun to watch as well utilizing the mat and mixing his techniques very well. Way to go Tony on a great test!! Congratulations to both test candidates on a great test effort overall. Thanks to everyone who helped get these guys ready to test and for all the great ukemi. Following the tests we all went to Pei Wei for dinner. We ate good food and talked a lot about aikido as usual. It was the perfect end to a training day. |

On Tuesday Seth Green rolled 125 times to celebrate his 34th birthday. Seth did a wonderful job rolling for the energetic aikidoka on the mat who helped with the special birthday rolls. Great Job Seth and Happy Birthday!

This past Sunday we had two tests with Chris Weber testing for Gokyu and Gilbert Hughes testing for Nikyu.
Chris got to go first and did a fabulous job of moving and bending his knees. His posture was good and he easily handled all of the required techniques, plus plenty of extra ones. His randori was off of the charts as he used the entire mat and kept all of his ukes spread throughout the exercise. Great job Chris on a great test!!
Then Gilbert came next, moving very well through the kyu test. Though he did get a little tired, his energy and pace of the test was very good. Gilbert did such a good job with all of the techniques that we added tanto dori for good measure and he did very well with the take-aways. Great job Gilbert and keep up the good work!!
Following the kyu tests we went over to PeiWei for dinner and celebration where we all enjoyed plenty of good food and conversation. Thanks to everyone for a successful kyu test Sunday and special thanks to the many ukes during the kyu tests. |

The weather has turned snowy and beautiful here in Austin, but since there's a chance that the roads will turn icy this evening, we are canceling all classes for tonight, February 23. We plan to stick to our regular schedule on Thursday, February 25, so we'll see everybody then! Stay safe and enjoy the beautiful winter weather! |
