On Sunday, September 24th we had two kyu tests with Tim Schmelter testing for nikyu and William Shoemaker testing for gokyu.  Both Tim and William did an outstanding job, perfoming well beyond the requirements for their respective ranks.

William Shoemaker tested for gokyu.  It was his first test with us as he begain his aikido training at ACC (Austin Community College).  William displayed an impressive understanding of aikido principles for someone who has trained for a short period of time.  His movement was directed from his hips with his arms relaxed, making his test a joy to watch.  I tried to stump him with some unexpected techniques, but he handled them all very well.  Way to go William!!

Tim Schmelter tested for nikyu following William's test.  We pushed Tim to the edge of his stamina and his aikido remained strong.  It was awe-inspiring to watch.  Tim moved with such elegance and grace.  His focus on uke's center was beautiful to watch as well.  This test was truly outstanding.  Great job Tim!!

Afterwards we went to Baja Fresh to celebrate the wonderful kyu tests over a nice meal.  We had about 20 people that joined in the festivities.  Thanks to everyone for supporting the preparation and kyu tests.  Special thanks to Chad, Tommy, Alina, Brian, Charles, Christopher and Todd for providing ukeme during the two tests.
