On Sunday, Craig Slack Sensei of Alamo City Aikido came and taught an extended class that according to the clock lasted for three hours.  We started at 1 pm and trained until about 2:30, when we took a quick break for water, and then resumed training until the clock said it was 4 pm.  The training time seemed like only 10 minutes had gone by.  The old adage of “time flies when you are having fun” was certainly true for these classes.  We worked on some mind-blowing ideas, many of which we were doing at the ASU Winter Intensive last week.  Wow.  My eyes have not stopped spinning from that experience and yet here we go again.  It was truly awesome!

It still amazes me how soft you have to be in order to prevent giving your partner more stability.  The softness also leads the attacker into a weaker position as they move to maintain contact.  It all works.  Now if I can just convince myself to quit leaning and pushing on my partner so that I can get out of the way.  The instant I quit trying to do something with my arms, everything gets much easier.  It will take some time to allow my body to adjust and integrate these ideas into other techniques, but in the meantime we are having a blast working of these principles.

Following class several of us went to dinner at La Feria to maintain our eat train eat image.  All in all it was a super fun day of training and hanging out with our friends.  Special thanks to Craig Slack Sensei and Sylvia for coming to share their aikido with us and Congratulations on their upcoming wedding!!
