On Sunday our good friends from Alamo City Aikido in San Antonio came up to Austin to train with our group. Michael Young Sensei taught class and really gave us a lot to work on and think about. I don’t think I have quite recovered from the winter intensive and on Sunday we had the wonderful opportunity to work more on new ideas. The process is simple, at least in theory. Fill the space from below by focusing on weighting one foot and then shifting the weight to the other foot. Getting my body to do this was another story. The two and a half hour class disappeared as we worked on many exercises along this theme. It was another way of looking at weight shifting as an integral part of acceptance and expansion. All of these exercises are going to take more practice as we work them into our techniques. It was a great afternoon and we all had a lot of fun working on these ideas with out friends from San Antonio. Following class we all went to Baja Fresh for dinner, where we visited for a while until I could not eat any more. Thanks to Mike Young Sensei for a great afternoon of aikido! |
