On Sunday, we had three kyu tests which included two Gokyu Tests featuring Matt Czosnek and Gilbert Hughes and one Yonkyu Test which was completed by Brian Canham. All the tests went very well with each test candidate demonstrating a lot of improvement from their previous test. Gilbert Hughes went first and did an awesome job maintaining good posture and movement throughout his test, especially on his pins. Way to go Gilbert!! Next Matt Czosnek tested demonstrating great movement and good arm tension during his techniques. He kept his composure during the randori which was great to see as well. All in all it was a very good test, Way to go Matt!! Finally, Brian Canham tested for yonkyu and did a great job. He moved and attempted to use his center more than his arms which is especially challenging for a strong person to do. Although he got a little winded he hung in there did a great job handling all the techniques I could throw at him. Way to go Brian!! Congratulations to all three of these test candidates on a job well done. These were all excellent tests and show a lot of understanding of aiki principles. Thanks to everyone who participated and took ukemi during the kyu tests. Special thanks to the senior students for helping the three test candidates get ready for their tests. Following the kyu tests a number of us went to Pei Wei for dinner and to talk more aikido. It was a wonderful afternoon that was enjoyed by all. |
