This was our 6th annual seminar with Sunny Skys Sensei from Fremont, California. This year was particularly special with Sunny Sensei bringing an entourage of his dojo’s members from Fremont with him. This included Steve Sensei, Tommy, Derek, and Chip. In addition we had a special guest, Jonathan Lewis from Boulder, Colorado. These Aikidoka all added a tremendous energy to the mat that made it seem 10 degrees hotter than it already was. Maybe it was just hot, but the energy was awesome!

Sunny Sensei focused on a simple way of viewing Aikido principles as accepting your partner until you begin to be one person. We did this from a number of different attacks and techniques. Sunny Sensei always finds a way of expressing Aikido in real life terms that changes your approach to training and how one views the world. He is truly a unique teacher. We also worked on utilizing this approach in randori techniques, which worked rather well.

Then on Saturday night we had a wonderful pot luck at the home of Darrell White. As always, there was plenty of food, great conversation, and lots of laughter. Thank you Darrell for being a wonderful host.

It was an exciting and fun filled weekend with our friends from California, Colorado and around Texas. Though we did not get a lot of sleep over the weekend, it was truly a wonderful time and training experience.

We are already thinking about next year’s seminar. Thanks to Sunny Sensei and our many guests who came and supported our dojo with this special seminar. Also, thanks to everyone in our Aikido community that participated making this a very successful event!
