On Sunday we had three kyu tests that included Khair Zaman for Rokyu, Ross Smith for Yonkyu and Charles Pummill for Nikyu. Zaman started the testing with his first test effort and despite a little nervousness, did very well. Even with a few struggles on some of the techniques, Zaman showed an increased understanding of connection. Way to go Zaman! The first test is certainly the hardest one. Ross followed with his quest for Yonkyu and he did a great job as well. Ross has improved immensely from his last test. His randori was outstanding, utilizing the mat well and trusting his movement to create technique. Way to go Ross! Finally, Charles followed with some of the most amazing suwari wasa I have seen. His posture was perfect and he moved evenly and controlled. It was awe inspiring to watch and shows that all of Charles’ efforts and training are paying off. His randori was also very well done, utilizing the mat and moving well to create time. Way to go Charles on a great test! It was a good day of testing with all candidates doing a great job. We went to Pei Wei following the kyu tests to celebrate with food. It was a pleasant gathering for everyone who attended. Great job everyone and thanks for participating, making this a successful kyu test event. Thanks to all of the senior students who assisted in the test preparation and for ukemi during the kyu tests. |
