What a great seminar weekend with Mary Heiny Sensei! We had a very full mat, wonderful energy and a great training weekend. The seminar focused on proper attention to our partner’s centerline, followed by proper footwork and movement to accommodate the various techniques we practiced. Sensei also focused on the movement of energy up the backbone from the ground to assist in connection without using muscle to move your partner.
In addition to the practice, Mary Heiny Sensei delivered many wonderful stories of her life in Aikido and experiences with various teachers she worked with while living in Japan. At the pot luck, Sensei shared her story of how she became interested in Aikido after watching O-Sensei enter Hombu dojo during the late 60s. Sensei also shared many stories of her experiences with Saotome Sensei, which were very interesting to hear. The pot luck was also a great success thanks to everyone’s contribution of food, of which I had my fare share. Special thanks to Darrell White for hosting the pot luck at his very beautiful home. We had a wonderful turn out from various people within the Aikido community from all over Texas. We are thankful for everyone’s participation and making this a very successful seminar. Pictures will be coming soon…
