On Sunday, December 13th we had three kyu tests that included Lee Hughes for Rokyu, Richard Moore for Yonkyu and Stephen Hughes for Sankyu. All three tests went very well. First Lee tested for Rokyu and even though he has only trained for a short time, his understanding of Aikido is rapidly growing. Lee performed all of the required techniques and many off the cuff for an outstanding test. Way to Go Lee! Then Richard showed some amazing Aikido of his own during his test. He did one of the best iriminage movements I have seen to date, by first allowing the attacker’s energy in and then passing and turning with an upward spiral. It was an awe inspiring moment. Overall Richard is moving from his center very well and his posture is getting better and better. Way to go Richard on a great test! Finally, Stephen tested for Sankyu. Regardless of the attack by the many ukes, Stephen responded well throughout his test. His movement has quickened considerably and he continues to show trust and confidence in his technique. His randori went very quickly with good mat usage and movement. Way to go Stephen on a great test as well! Following the tests we went to Freebirds for dinner and many good conversations with all who came. Thanks to everyone who participated in the kyu test prep and test event to make it special for the test candidates. Congratulations to the test candidates on three very good tests. We are all very proud of your achievement. |
